U3A Timaru

U3A is a worldwide organisation that grew from a legislative change in France in 1972 – universite du troisieme age (UDA). U3A is not a college building but simply a gathering of people.  NZ law does not allow us to use University in our title and you do not have to attended University to join us.  All you need is an open enquiring mind and a spirit of curiosity.  

The U3A motto is learn, laugh, live; that is learning for pleasure.

U3A Timaru is a group of mostly retired people who enjoy getting together to hear talks by people with expertise in a wide range of topics.

Our Committee arranges nine lecture Series each year, most with three talks, usually on a common theme.

We currently have over 330 members and around 90 on the waiting list, so it's a good idea to plan ahead and get your name on the waiting list, if you intend to join.  See the Apply to Join page (top of this page) for information about joining U3A and a link to our application form. Currently, there's a wait of around two years before a place is likely to be available.

We regret that we're unable to accommodate visitors at our meetings - meetings are open to members only because of limits on the seating capacity of our venue.
